The Poison in our Veins, Canada 2019

Photographer Peter Bauza’s reportage on Grassy Narrows and White Dog, Ontario, Canada, two First Nations reserves poisoned by environmental damages. “The Poison in our Veins”, tells the story of Melissa Bunting, born in Grassy Narrows, mother of five and one of the many affected by mercury poisoning. Melissa’s story embodies the daily struggle and challenges of so many lives in this harsh reality, however, there is hope: Hope that her illness may not get worse, career opportunities and the prospect of a lifelong compensation pension are all in Melissa’s favour.
